Baking Powder Biscuits
1¾ cups flour
2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¾ teaspoon salt
1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup milk
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
2. Place flour in a mixing bowl, then sprinkle in the baking powder and salt (sprinkling them will help to mix them in). Use a fork to mix these dry ingredients together.
3. Once the dry ingredients are very well mixed, cut the shortening into the flour mixture using a pastry blender, until mixture resembles fine crumbs (like cornmeal).
4. Stir in just enough milk so dough starts to leave side of bowl and rounds up into a ball.
5. Divide biscuit dough into six pieces. Roll them in your hands like cookie dough and place on the baking sheet. Push down slightly on tops so they are not round anymore.
6. Bake until golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
Makes about 6 biscuits.
