Spritz Cookies
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla ( or ½ teaspoon almond flavoring)
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
2. Cream butter and sugar; blend in egg and flavoring.
3. In another bowl, combine dry ingredients (sprinkle baking powder and salt over the flour to be sure it is mixed in well); stir into creamed mixture; mix well.
4. Pack dough, half at a time, into a cookie press (do not chill dough).
5. Press into desired shapes on ungreased baking sheet; if desired, sprinkle with colored sugar crystals or trim with pieces of red and green cherries, pressing cherries lightly into dough.
6. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 7 to 8 minutes; cool.
Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
