A peanut butter cookie is a type of cookie that is distinguished for having peanut butter as a principal ingredient. The cookie originated in the USA around 1910.
History
George Washington Carver (1864-1943), was the most well-known promoter of the peanut as a replacement for the cotton crop. He compiled 105 peanut recipes from various cookbooks, including three recipes for peanut cookies. In the early 1920s peanut butter was listed as an ingredient in the cookies.
Baking patterns: the “Criss-Cross”
· Peanut butter cookie dough is dense, and without being pressed, it will not cook evenly.
· The first reference to the famous criss-cross marks created with fork tines was published in the 1932. It was said that the "criss-cross design made the cookies look like the squares on waffles.”
· The Pillsbury Company included the use of the fork in its Peanut Butter cookie recipe in their 1933 cookbook.
